We can always use an extra set of hands! We need people to help in every aspect of our organization, from transporting animals, to cleaning cages, helping out with administrative duties, and socializing the animals.
You can make a tremendous contribution to Ratical Rodent Rescue’s wonderful work by volunteering just a few hours a week. Please check out the volunteer opportunities below and let us know how you would like to help by filling out our volunteer application.
Volunteer Opportunities
At this time, all Ratical Rodent Rescue volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and be comfortable around pocket pets. We also require a minimum of at least 2 hours every other week for a minimum of 6 months.
Administrative
At Ratical Rodent Rescue, volunteers are critical in helping keep the rescue organized and systems maintained. We need help with all administrative aspects including data entry, social media, correspondence, website maintenance, and many other day-to-day tasks. Much of this can also be done remotely if you live a bit further away from the rescue!
Animal Care
We need help keeping Ratical Rodent Rescue facilities clean and safe for our animals. Volunteers must be willing to pick up and clean up after the animals, clean cages, sweep and mop, and care for the animals including nail trims. Any experienced veterinarian technicians or handypersons are encouraged to join, as well! Our regular shifts are typically 2 hours between 10am and 6pm daily.
Marketing / Promotions / Communications
If you have an interest and skill in social media networking, web or app development, photography, videography, or online marketing, Ratical Rodent Rescue could use your talents for creating event and fundraising flyers and social media networking to help grow our presence and impact! We also need someone to keep our Adoptable animal profiles up to date to help these cuties find their furever homes.
Special Event Planning & Staffing
Ratical Rodent Rescue holds several special fundraising events throughout the year including Bay Area Pignic, Ratapalooza, etc. We need volunteers to help in every stage of planning and facilitating these special events!
Transport
Members of the transport team will be on call to transport our animals to and from adoption events, vet appointments, shelters, and foster homes.
Volunteer Coordinator
At Ratical Rodent Rescue we survive on donations and volunteer time! We need someone who can assist with finding new volunteers, ensuring current volunteer release forms are on file for each volunteer, and managing schedules and responsibilities of existing volunteers.
Fosters
Do you have time and space to open your home temporarily to animals in need? The more foster homes we have, the more animals we can save. Fostering provides a temporary home for a rescued animal until a permanent furever home is found. It also provides time for the animals to adjust and learn socialization. For some animals, the foster home also provides time to recover from an illness or injury before they can be made available for adoption.
